For years designer Aidah Fontenot has been educating and encouraging talented youth pursuing creative careers. Her innovative methods help them understand individuality and sharpen their abilities into an applicable skill.
She offers fashion internships that provide training, encouragement and real world experience. Since 2008, Aidah has worked with over 25 college students, some of which have been awarded academic credits at Marymount University, Elicott College and the University of Maryland.
In addition to applied skill instruction, interns receive an overview of careers within the fashion industry, as well as eco/sustainable fashion methods.
Areas of Study:
Fashion Design – finding inspiration, color theory, sketching, silhouettes, choosing fabric, creating a collection
Applied Fashion – cutting fabric, pattern making, hand sewing, machine sewing
Photoshop – Image conversion, sizing for print and web media, color enhancing, retouching.
Wardrobe Styling – learning body shapes, keeping up with trends, creating outfits, maintaining garments
Merchandising – creating a brand through packaging, presentation
Retail – Sales and marketing strategies, market research, direct sales, customer relations
Public/Media Relations – Writing press releases, advertising campaigns, communicating with press
Social Media – Writing and marketing strategies for social media
Planning – logistics, sponsorship requests, VIP and Press Relations
